Third-generation compound semiconductor market conditions are expected to change in the wake of Tesla announcing a 75% cut in the use of SiC components for its next-generation EV powertrain systems, with GaN believed to embrace the subsequent substitution effect. This is expected to benefit TSMC, Vanguard International Semiconductor (VIS) and United Microelectronics (UMC), which have made early deployments and continue to expand their 8-inch capacity for processing GaN devices, according to industry sources.
