Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC) and Intel are facing different constraints in expanding their presence in the global foundry market while they are on track to bolster domestic semiconductor self-sufficiency in China and the US, respectively, in their capacity as the bellwether foundry in their own countries, according to industry observers.
