The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) is fueling an unprecedented energy crisis that could fundamentally constrain the industry’s growth, according to Pankaj Sharma, executive vice president for data centers at Schneider Electric. Speaking at Computex 2025, Sharma warned that AI data centers are rapidly approaching power consumption levels that dwarf traditional computing infrastructure, raising urgent questions about energy availability, environmental impact, and infrastructure readiness.
