Global notebook shipment forecast, 2023 and beyond

The notebook market is set to face a more than 20% decline in whole-year 2022 shipments with the second-quarter shipments starting to dive as post-pandemic market demand becomes relatively saturated on top of a series of black swan events including rising global inflation, the Russia-Ukraine war as well as aggressive interest rate hikes in mature markets and worse yet, lingering supply chain instabilities.

Foundry PSMC slashes 2022 capex

Pure-play foundry Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing (PSMC), which specializes specialty DRAM, display driver ICs, CMOS image sensors and power management ICs, as well as customized and low-volume chips, has revised downward its capex target for 2022 to US$850 million, a 43% cut from the US$1.5 billion set previously.
