China carmakers request 15-20% price cuts for chips in sufficient supply

With automotive chip shortages gradually abating, Chinese automakers reportedly have asked suppliers to cut prices by 15-20% on those chips not in short supply, looking to reduce production costs, according to industry sources. This is a sharp contrast to practices by mainstream automakers in Europe, the US, Japan, and Korea. They usually adopt flexible negotiations with suppliers in seeking price cuts on those chips and components having been rising in quotes several times during tight supply, so as to maintain long-term partnerships, the sources said.

Samsung plans 1.4nm for 2027 while polishing up 3D packaging technology

At the annual Samsung Foundry Forum held in San Jose, California on October 3, Samsung announced its plan to introduce the 2nm process in 2025, and 1.4nm process in 2027. In light of the growing demand from HPC and automobile sectors, Samsung said that it would also enhance its 3nm process for HPC applications, and build speciality technologies based on 4nm process for both HPC and auto applications.
