Sony hearing aid to be available in US in 4Q22; CATL, EVE Energy to supply BMW with large cylindrical batteries; Hyundai postpones 3rd-gen fuel cell volume production to 2027

Sony and WS Audiology have teamed up developing hearing aids, planning to make them available in the US market in October. CATL and EVE Energy will supply large cylindrical batteries for BMW’s new cars starting from 2025, and several battery companies are planning to mass produce 46800 batteries. Commercialization of Hyundai’s third-generation fuel cells will be delayed from 2023 to 2027, thanks to technical difficulties and uncertain demand.

The cost of setting up an electric-car charging station can vary greatly, according to our latest Commercial EV Charger Price Survey that looks at how hardware and installation costs are shaping up. The 7-22 kilowatt AC chargers – which are found at locations such as hotels and take several hours to juice a battery – can be priced as low as US$238 and as high as $10,000, with a larger, fast-charging 150 kilowatt DC unit costing between US$16,335 and US$135,000.

Arm mulls partnership with Samsung, potentially on near-memory computing

SoftBank chairman and CEO Masayoshi Son raised the possibility of a strategic alliance between Arm and Samsung on September 22, according to several media outlets, as falling technology stocks worldwide complicate SoftBank’s ongoing plan to publicly list Arm in 2023. According to Nikkei Asia, Son announced plans to visit South Korea for talks with Samsung regarding the strategic alliance, in a bid to boost the chip design company’s valuation.
