Worldwide microprocessor sales are expected to maintain double-digit percentage growth in 2022, despite economic troubles brewing this year, according to IC Insights.

End demand weakness in consumer markets, including PC and smartphones, has dragged down significantly the global memory industry bit demand, according to Sanjay Mehrotra, CEO of Micron Technology. And despite the still-strong datacenter end demand, Micron has seen some enterprise OEM customers intend to pare back their memory and storage inventory, said Mehrotra.

Taiwan-based PC component specialists have moved to strengthen their presence in the networking, server, electric vehicle (EV) and other non-PC sectors amid a slowdown in shipment dynamics in the consumer electronics market, according to industry sources.
