Beyond smartphone: AIoT grows in importance in MediaTek’s strategy
Long driven by smartphone chips sales, MediaTek, the world’s 5th largest IC design house by revenue as of first-quarter 2022, is gearing up for growth potential in the connectivity market driven by 5G and Internet of Things (IoT). On August 18, MediaTek released the T830 platform, built with the company’s M80 modem supporting sub-6GHz operations, for 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) routers and customer-premise equipment (CPE). Earlier this May, MediaTek also released the Genio open platform software design kit (SDK) for AIoT devices, in combination with Genio 1200, a chipset for advanced smart home and industrial IoT applications.

Foxconn chairman Young Liu has revealed the company’s plans to establish an ESG (environmental, social and governance) green energy fund with the goal of helping other companies invest in sustainability. This came on the heels of China’s recent power cuts in Sichuan, further highlighting how ESG is now a key factor in the supply chain.

Data localization takes effect on October 1 in Vietnam
Data localization will take effect in Vietnam on October 1, 2022. The requirements are been set out in the Cybersecurity Law and a decree covering data protection. All technology firms are required to store their users’ data locally and set up local offices.

Taiflex to set up flexible CCL plant in Thailand
