Cross-domain integration at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology: Cultivating new professionals in energy transition

The global environment is changing rapidly, and net zero by 2050 has become the consensus of the world’s governments and industries. Taiwan, a major global manufacturing hub, be it in environmental protection or industrial development, must be committed to promoting green energy and pursuing sustainable development. National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) has cooperated with industry to actively develop technologies and cultivate professionals in this area, thereby laying the foundation for Taiwan’s energy transformation.

Is ‘mature technology’ weaponized by Chips Act?

The recently passed Chips and Science Act 2022, now awaiting US president Joe Biden’s signature, specifically indicates that recipients of the subsidies are not allowed to “engage in any significant transaction…involving the material expansion of semiconductor manufacturing capacity in the People’s Republic of China or any other foreign country of concern” during the 10-year period covered by the subsidies.

Cross-strait relations: An IT analyst’s view

From 1990 to 2000, most of the investments made by Taiwanese companies in China were only for contract processing, and it was only when the companies invested in the Yangtze River Delta that a critical change in the industry relationship occurred.
