UMC launches initiative to cut supply chain emissions by 20% by 2030

Semiconductor foundry company United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC), announced on November 9 at its annual supplier summit the launch of the Supply Chain Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory Initiative. Its goal is a 20% reduction in supply chain emissions by 2030. UMC said it will assist its 500 suppliers by providing tools and resources for measuring and managing emissions, to complete their GHG inventories.

WSJ: TSMC to invest another US$12 billion to expand Arizona fab capacity

A Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report quoted sources saying that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. (TSMC) is going to expand its investment in Arizona by producing 3 nm chips besides the current 5 nm capacity. The scale of the investment is also around US$12 billion that it committed for the 5 nm chip fab two years ago, according to the sources.

Samsung reportedly to reduce smartphone production proportion in Vietnam to 40%

Localized and diverse production bases have become an inevitable approach for manufacturers to reduce geopolitical risks or supply chain disruption. Samsung also actively diversifies its smartphone production in multiple countries, such as Vietnam, India, Brazil, Indonesia, and Turkey. Vietnam is currently the biggest production base for Samsung’s phones.
